Each year, the best eTwinning projects in 43 Europe countries are awarded with the European Prizes by the European Commission. In European Prizes 2021, 31 teachers from Turkey showed great success in 8 projects that are founded or partnered by them. Having participated in eTwinning activities for 12 years, Turkey had won prizes in maximum 3 categories until this year. In 2021 European Prizes, Turkey was awarded in 9 categories out of 13 categories in total.

eTwinning is a network-based platform which enables European schools to collaborate and cooperate online and carry out projects in an interdisciplinary way as well as providing a learning environment among for school administrators, teachers and students where learning by doing and experiencing is enabled. Coordinated by the Directorate General of Innovation and Educational Technologies in Turkey, eTwinning encourages school level collaboration by providing support, tools and services to schools and facilitating the short and long-term partnerships among them.  

Starting in 2005 in Europe, the eTwinning activity was first participated by Turkey in 2009. Among 43 European countries registered in the eTwinning activity, Turkey ranks the first in terms of number of participating schools, teachers and projects.  These numbers have gradually increased in recent years, which is evidenced by the majority of European Prizes brought to Turkey by Turkish teachers.

European Prizes are awarded for the best eTwinning projects carried out by 43 countries in Europe by the European Commission. This year, 870 projects were proposed by all countries. These projects were evaluated and awarded under 9 categories (4 age categories and 5 special categories).

31 teachers from Turkey showed great success in the international arena in 8 projects that they founded/partnered.  

In Age Category Up To 6, 6 teachers ranked second with the "S.T.E.A.M-tastic" project:

  • Başak Yılmaz (Efeler Zübeyde Hanım Kindergarten, Aydın)
  • Ayşe Beyza Ünlü (Çeşmecik Vali Kemal Katıtaş Secondary School, Konya)
  • Tuğba Güngör (Çayırova Ahmet Yesevi Primary School, Kocaeli)
  • Gülsüm Atile (Hakkı Tatoğlu Primary School, Antalya)
  • Nurten Özel (Beyşehir Cumhuriyet Kindergarten, Konya)
  • Semra Kahveci (Şirinevler Mehmet Şen Primary School, İstanbul) 

In Age Category 7-11, 4 teachers ranked first with the "Animal Friends in an Animal-Friendly World" project:

  • Yeliz Bostan (23 Nisan Kaptanoğlu High School, İstanbul)
  • Serap Sonal (Şehitler Secondary School, Manisa) 
  • Dilek Çelik (Barbaros Secondary School, Bursa) 
  • Gözde Taşkan (Kıbrıs Şehitleri Secondary School, İzmir)

In Age Category 12-15, 3 teachers ranked second with "Future Journalist" project:

·     Gülay Yazman (Atatürk Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Konya)

·     Gonca Köseoğlu (İhsane Tuna Dıravacıoğlu Primary School, İzmir)

·     İlkay Akarsu (Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Eskişehir)

·     Fadimana Yetiş Mete (Şehit Mehmet Ali Körükçü Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Konya)

In Age Category 16-19, 6 teachers ranked first with "Climate Volunteers" project:

·     Nesrin Kurt (founder) (Kadri Şaman MTSO Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Mersin)

·     Pelin Bölükbaşı (founder) (Durmuş Ali Çoban Anatolian High School, Denizli)

·     Mehmet Değirmenci (Özel Diyarbakır Okyanus Koleji Science High School, Diyarbakır)

·     Ferhan Urfan (Sekine Evren Anatolian High School, Manisa)

·     Emsal Dönmez Akın (Şehit Bayram Yeşil Multi-Program Anatolian High School, Burdur)

·     Emrullah Kızıl (Mehmet Niyazi Altuğ Anatolian High School, İstanbul)

In Age Category 16-19, a teacher ranked second with the "Listen to my radio: Breaking news" project

  • Turgut Aydın (Koçarlı Anatolian High School, Aydın)

In the "Peyo Yavorov" Prize ? For a Project that encourages reading among young people and sponsored by the National Support Organization of Bulgaria, 8 teachers ranked first with "The Champion of the World" project:

·     Fadime İriz (Toki Şehit Er Yılmaz Özdemir Primary School, İstanbul) 

·     Sevgi Seçgül (Şehit Jandarma Er Fatih Çaybaşı Secondary School, Erzincan)

·     Cansu Tekin (Dr. Tahsin Tola Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Isparta)

·     Fadimana Yetiş Mete (Şehit Mehmet Ali Körükçü Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Konya)

In the Citizenship Prize sponsored by France and Germany, a teacher ranked first with "eco_fab_lab" project:

·     Esma Apaydın (Afyonkarahisar Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Afyon)

In the Marie Curie Prize sponsored by the e-Twinning National Support Organization in Poland, a teacher ranked first with the "STEM is.. on fire" project:

·     Hatice Mutlu (Görükle Akşemseddin Primary School, Bursa)
